A division of the Kennards Hire group, it opened in 2003 and within five years grew from one hire centre in Sydney to a national network of branches, including Wollongong NSW, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Kennards Lift & Shift is headed up by Allen Besseling, who has 23 years experience in the hire industry and was the General Manager of Kennards Hire before taking on this new role.
Allen saw a great need for such a specialist hire division, and after visiting similar operations in the US and Britain and scouring the world for innovative products, launched the new entity.
Much of the equipment offered by Kennards Lift & Shift at that time had never previously been available in Australia. That situation continues today because the company is continually searching overseas for new products that will "make the job easy" for customers.
Whether it's carrying a 1 tonne load up stairs, lifting a 60 tonne load with only 5mm to get the jack under or lifting material up a 100m shaft, Kennards Lift & Shift has the answer.

With safety the number one priority in lifting and moving jobs, the utmost care is taken to ensure equipment is of the highest quality and is regularly load tested and fully serviced.
There's no guesswork involved when Kennards Lift & Shift staff give advice. As well as being highly trained in the use of equipment, they are qualified riggers or, if they are new to the company, are in the process of getting their formal qualifications.
To become a qualified rigger, a person must first do a Dogman's Course, followed by a Rigger's Course.
Riggers are trained to handle a variety of tasks, including positioning structures such as beams and pre-cast walls, setting up and dismantling cranes and hoists, preparing loads for lifting and directing cranes.
They need to be able to calculate not only how heavy a load is, but also how that load will behave when it is lifted and moved and what type of lifting equipment needs to be used.
